Additional Information & Quick Notes

Best Time to Visit: The best time to visit Masai Mara is during the dry season, from July to October, which coincides with the Great Migration of wildebeests and zebras. However, wildlife viewing is excellent year-round.

Weather: Kenya enjoys a tropical climate with varying temperatures depending on the region. In Masai Mara, temperatures can range from 10°C (50°F) in the early morning to 25°C (77°F) during the day. Evenings can be chilly, so pack layers.

Health and Safety: It’s recommended to take antimalarial medication before traveling to Kenya, especially when visiting areas like Masai Mara. Ensure you have up-to-date vaccinations as recommended by your healthcare provider. Drink only bottled or purified water.

Cultural Sensitivity: Respect local customs and traditions, especially when visiting Maasai villages. Always ask for permission before taking photographs of people.

Currency: The official currency is the Kenyan Shilling (KES). Credit cards are widely accepted in cities, but it’s advisable to carry some cash, especially when traveling to remote areas.

Packing Tips: Pack light, comfortable clothing suitable for safari, including neutral-colored clothes for game drives. Don’t forget sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat, and sunglasses. Binoculars and a good camera with extra batteries are essential for wildlife viewing.

Visa: Most travelers require a visa to enter Kenya, which can be obtained online through the eVisa portal or upon arrival.

Language: English and Swahili are the official languages, and English is widely spoken in tourist areas.

Electricity: Kenya uses the British-style 3-pin plug (Type G). Voltage is 240V. Consider bringing a universal adapter.

Tipping: Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory. A tip of 10-15% is standard in restaurants, and a small gratuity for guides and drivers is customary.

Photography: Wildlife photography is encouraged, but be mindful of your surroundings and avoid disturbing the animals. Flash photography is not allowed during game drives.

Safety: Kenya is generally safe for tourists, but it’s advisable to follow local advice, avoid displaying valuables, and be cautious in crowded areas.
